BBC Breakfast and News 24 Appearance

January 2014

I was on BBC Breakfast and on BBC News 24 on the 13th January discussing whether on a child's birthday you should buy presents for the child's siblings. My argument was that you shouldn't because children need to learn to delay gratification and this ability to delay gratification predicts future academic and social success, and also that it is a bad idea to rely on material goods like presents to soothe children when they feel disappointed or any sort of negative emotion. It encourages the wrong sorts of materialistic habits in later life.
