Geoff published a piece in The Conversation on ‘Black Lives Matter’. In it he makes the point that racism is about action in everyday life, not just words or hashtags. And the problem is that we are not aware of much of our everyday behaviour.
Geoff refers to research where his team analysed gaze fixations on CVs in a shortlisting task and found them to be highly biased depending on the race of the candidate, despite the people doing the shortlisting declaring themselves ‘colour blind’. This work is outlined in my book ‘Our Racist Heart?’ (Routledge).
The article seems to be getting significant international traction.
