Opening session at Sheffield Doc/Fest on psychology of documentary film making

May 2018

I did the opening session of the Craft Summit at the Sheffield Doc/fest at Sheffield Town Hall in June.

Along with the award-winning filmmakers Bernadett Tuza-Ritter, director of ‘A Woman Captured’, and Sean McAllister, director of ‘A Northern Soul’, the film that opened the festival. Both films are shortlisted for the Grand Jury Award.

I was discussing the psychology of documentary film making and the complex psychological relationship between the director and the subject. Both are extraordinary films, and it was both a privilege and a pleasure to participate.
